Currawong Project seeks to expand the space where virtuosity in its most original form and technology in its most advanced state not only coexist, but impart new meaning to one another.
We call this new practice dynamic music.
Currawong Project envisions concert music at an inflection point–deriving from the confluence of performer virtuosity, innovative modes of presentation, and digital transformation of instrumental sound including live performance analysis.
VIRTUOSITY
We revere virtuosity as the essential driving force of concert music, and focus on comparative performances to illuminate the zone where score and interpretation intersect and interact.
TRANSFORMATION
Projects are focused on applying performance analysis to sound transformation. Both in real time and drawing from an ever-evolving performance history.
Transforms are derived entirely from the instrument(s) in performance. This practice gives rise to a very new form of dynamic interaction between performer and technology, one in which sound transformation is the product of virtuosity––yet largely beyond the conscious control of the performer.
Every performance is thus a work in constant transformation, and no two performances of a work can ever be the same.
REALIZATION
Our pieces are meant to be realized in multiple formats, such as reimagined concert environments, and Installation/Performance mode, highly suited for museum exhibitions.
ANALYSIS
The ubiquity of data analysis to inform decisions beyond our immediate control is already taken for granted in our daily lives.
At Currawong Project we employ performance data collected and analyzed as an integral part of the performance, and ultimately what constitutes the score itself.
